Mindful Makers and Doers Club

Decompression Zone

Mindfulness is the skill of being in the moment and experiencing what is happening right now without judgement. Developing the skill of mindfulness can help to increase your ability to concentrate and pay attention. It can also help you better navigate the ups and downs of life.

Mindful Makers and Doers Club (MMDC) invites you to make a habit of switching off after work through mindful making and doing activities. By spending 15-30 minutes on mindfully getting out of the 9 to 5 mindset, you mentally prepare yourself to fully engage in hobbies and personal commitments in your 5 to 9 time.

This is your go-to place to discover interesting ways to switch off and learn mindfulness through simple hands-on activities. Try doing the activities on this page sometime between when you leave your workplace and when you start getting stuck into your after-work hobbies and personal commitments.

Every month, 2 new activities are featured here and in the Activity Library

Activities to try in October

Tea Time

Have a "Mindful Happy Hour" drink

Swap happy hour drinks at the pub with an exercise in mindfully preparing a non-alcoholic drink at home.

As you make your drink, talk yourself through the steps of making it as if you were teaching someone else. Really focus in on what you can see, hear and smell as you make your drink.

Get some inspiration from:

The reflections of The Mindful Cup on Instagram. She shares lots of tips about enjoying tea in a simple way that doesn't require a lot of fancy stuff!

Reading a Digital Book

Get lost in a creative flow

Try doodling with a pen on paper, moving or making music with your body without the intention to make a "masterpiece". Simply experience the process of making without an end goal.

Alternatively, immerse yourself in the experience of listening to music or a story, observing a visual type of art or holding/using beautiful objects. Really focus in on what you can see, hear, feel.

The "Making Sense" audio course on Creative First Aid from the team at MakeShift. 30% off for October (Mental Health Month).

Who updates this page?

I'm Trish and I’m on a mission to make mindfulness equitable and accessible to everyone.

In my 5 to 9 time outside of my 9 to 5 day job, I teach mindfulness techniques like meditation. I advocate "equitable mindfulness" by developing ways to make it possible for everyone to practice mindfulness regardless of factors like age, gender, ethnic origin, income level, location, ability.

I'm committed to helping people make the most of their 5 to 9 life by making a habit of mindfully switching off after their 9 to 5. I encourage people to do this simple and hands-on making/doing activities and hobbies that are detached from the pressures of monetisation and social media fame.
